How the Rules have Changed

Baseball first started out as an amateur sport. Then it became more complex as the years went on. When the first real official baseball league was created, rules began to change a lot. In the first 15 years, the rules changed a lot. One of the rules that has changed a lot is the size of the batter box. They also changed the material they used for the bases. Some people would not have a lot of fans and then shatter other players records and get tons of fans. The biggest change was the line between the major league and negro league. More T.V. games were airing over the years, night games were getting more popular now. Some changes are how big the bat would be and how much it would weigh. Baseball has also become more offensive over the past couple of years.

In the 70’s the height of the pitcher's box went from being 15 inches to 10 inches. They also changed how many innings  a pitcher should pitch. They used to only pitch six innings each. In 1858, base runners were no longer required to touch each base in order. Also in 1858, strikes were introduced. In 1863, the bat size is regulated. In 1865, batting averages are included. In 1865, batters are given the privilege to call for a high or low pitch. In 1864, each base runner must touch the bases in order.
